Educational and Not-for-Profit Organizations

At Web Zeit, we are dedicated to bringing strategy and development of the highest caliber to educational and not-for-profit organizations around the world.

That's why we're working with the Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF), the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), the Mandela Institute, the International Freedom to Publish Committee (IFTPC), the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP), American Field Service (AFS) and many others. Our goal is to find cost-effective, smart solutions that meet the interactive needs of organizations today and paves the way for the future. Our initiatives are helping organizations attract media and member attention, raise money, communicate and cut costs.

SMART INTERACTIVE MEDIA

We focus on developing cost-effective sites that are modular and scalable, maximizing the return-on-investment by building online platforms that can be modified, expanded and re-engineered easily.

For the Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF), we're building new Web applications, including a communications platform, rich media and commerce.

Our critically acclaimed site for the Association for Financial Professionals integrates numerous Web technologies, including e-commerce, chat, message boards, online training and peer-to-peer anonymous email.

We are working with Widmeyer Communications for the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) to develop an online teacher's curriculum program and enable fast communications between UFT staffers.

We are working with Widmeyer Communications to redesign and develop learning modules for Figure This!, a middle school education content site.

Web Zeit developed online strategy and built Web modules for the Wharton School.

We developed graphics, branding and the popular Web site for American Field Service (AFS).

Other Web development clients include New York City Outward Bound, the Mandela Institute and International Freedom to Publish Committee.

PROCESS

HEAFSTRATEGY PHASE:

We begin engagements with a focused strategy component. Included in this phase are best practice assessments, SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats), brand definition and a strategy summit to review findings and articulate goals. The strategy phase culminates with a strategy document and site architecture.

A cogent, effective strategy is important because it ensures that the site will meet user needs and will also employ the right technologies and structure so that it can be modified easily and at low cost as the site expands and users' needs change.

PRE-PRODUCTION:

Pre-Production begins with a Web specifications document and action plan. The technical specifications document includes all technology needs, scripting, hosting and development requirements. The action plan includes delivery, review and other milestones. Thereafter, specific deliverables include building assets, such as logos and color palletes, setting up hosting and technology infrastructure.

PRODUCTION:

We produce Web sites according to a measured process, with frequent milestones and client review. We set up a client extranet for the purpose of site review and feedback and begin development with mockups and samples. Subsequent phases include alpha, beta, quality assurance and usability testing. We have developed proprietary technologies, processes and methodologies which allow us to deliver significant value to clients and manage growth while ensuring consistently high quality solutions, delivered on time and on budget.

We recommend developing sites with a modular site architecture, portable scripting (Java, Perl, PHP) and a database-backend. These attributes not only make for a robust phase I Web site but will ensure that that site can be modified and expanded easily and at low cost.
